GCFD 13 Assists Ephrata FD with Challenging Commercial Structure Fire

EPHRATA-- Fire District 13 units were called to 1732 Basin Street SW at approximately 1900 hours to assist the Ephrata Fire Department with a working commercial structure fire.  Several 9-1-1 calls were received by MACC dispatch reference flames leaping from the rear of the building.

Engine 1311 was the second piece of fire apparatus on the scene and quickly performed an assessment of the front of the structure.  The intense flames rapidly forced firefighters into a defensive attack.  Second alarms were dispatched for both Ephrata and Fire District 13 and mutual aid was called on from Grant County Fire Districts 3, 5 and 7.

In a successful attempt to keep the flames from spreading to the front office portion of the building, Dist 13. firefighters mounted an aggressive interior attack on the advancing flames that were approaching the office area. Utilizing two attack lines from Engine 1311 firefighters were able to enter the front portion of the building ultimately stopping the threatening flame front.

Dist. 13 provided a total of two structure engines, one command unit, one support unit and 12 firefighters. The fire was brought under control around 12 AM.  Damage to the building was estimated at over 1 million dollars.
